The original. The benchmark. The one that started it all over again. The Swatch x Omega Bioceramic Moonswatch Mission to the Moon is the most significant and historically faithful model in the entire eleven-piece collection — the Moonswatch that comes closest to the legendary Omega Speedmaster Professional it pays tribute to, and the one that every serious collector and Speedmaster enthusiast reaches for first.
When Swatch and Omega unveiled the Moonswatch collection on 26 March 2022, it was the Mission to the Moon that immediately captured the imagination of the watch world beyond the hype of the colourful planetary models. Because unlike every other model in the collection — which each interprets the Speedmaster's iconic silhouette through the lens of a different celestial body and its corresponding colour palette — the Mission to the Moon simply stays true. It faithfully reproduces the design language of the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch as closely as the Bioceramic format allows, and in doing so creates the most timelessly wearable and most deeply resonant piece in the entire lineup.
The light grey Bioceramic case is the critical detail. Constructed from Swatch's proprietary material — a patented blend of two thirds ceramic with one third biosourced material derived from castor oil — the light grey tone carries a quality that at a quick glance reads almost as steel, referencing the brushed stainless steel case of the actual Omega Speedmaster in a way that no other Moonswatch colourway attempts. It is the most restrained, most considered and most Speedmaster-faithful case colour in the collection — and paired with the black dial, the effect is immediately and unmistakably evocative of the watch that went to the Moon in July 1969 and has never left the cultural imagination since.
The black dial is deep, all-black and fully consistent across the main dial and all three subdials — no contrast subdials, no panda configuration, no colour accents. Just pure, deep black from edge to edge, with white baton hands and white hour markers providing the clarity and legibility that the design demands. The step dial construction — where the subdials and minute track are slightly recessed into the dial surface — creates a three-dimensional quality that adds genuine architectural interest and echoes the Speedmaster's own dial construction with remarkable fidelity. The white tachymeter numerals on the black bezel complete the classic black-and-white palette with total conviction — clean, purposeful and entirely correct.
All hands are white throughout — hour, minute, chronograph seconds and subdial hands all matching in crisp, clean white that stands out against the black dial with outstanding legibility in any lighting condition. Super-LumiNova on all hour markers and hands provides a strong green glow in the dark that is among the most legible and satisfying in the collection — warm and atmospheric against the deep black dial, fully consistent with the tool watch heritage this model is honouring.
The black VELCRO strap anchors the all-grey-and-black palette with total authority — the darkest and most serious strap in the original eleven-piece lineup, fully in keeping with the Mission to the Moon's straightforward, uncompromising character. The asymmetrical case profile is lifted directly from the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch — every curve, every lug angle, every proportion considered and faithful — with the legendary tachymetric scaled bezel carrying the revered "dot over 90" detail that Speedmaster collectors have treasured for over half a century. Recessed subdials, the fine circular pattern on the dial's outer ring and sharp smooth lugs echo the original architecture throughout.
A hidden "S" is etched into the centre of the biosourced glass crystal alongside the dual OMEGA x Swatch and Moonswatch logos and the iconic Speedmaster name — the most meaningful co-branded dial ever produced at this price point, carrying the weight of sixty years of space exploration history in a watch that weighs just 29 grams. The battery cover on the caseback carries an illustration of the Moon, while the inspiring inscriptions moulded into the double-bevelled surface read: DREAM BIG — FLY HIGHER — EXPLORE THE UNIVERSE — REACH FOR THE PLANETS.
The most faithful. The most wearable. The most timeless. The one that pays direct homage to the first watch worn on the surface of the Moon — and wears that honour every single day.
