The most technically ambitious and conceptually extraordinary model in the entire Moonswatch collection. The Swatch x Omega Bioceramic Moonswatch Mission to Earthphase is the only watch in the world — at any price, from any manufacturer — to feature both a moon phase complication and an earth phase indicator on the same dial simultaneously. It is a genuinely unprecedented piece of watchmaking, delivered in the most accessible and characterful way imaginable.
The concept at the heart of the Earthphase is a perspective shift so elegant it feels obvious in retrospect — and yet no watchmaker had thought to execute it before Swatch and Omega. Just as we observe the Moon's phases from Earth across a 29.5-day cycle, the Earth itself exhibits phases when viewed from the surface of the Moon — cycling through the same sequence of illumination in reverse, on the same 29.5-day schedule. When we see a full Moon from Earth, an observer standing on the Moon would see a new Earth — a dark disc in the sky, our entire planet in shadow. When we see a new Moon, they would see a full Earth — our entire world blazing with reflected sunlight above the lunar horizon.
It is this view — Earth seen from the Moon — that the Mission to Earthphase captures on the 10 o'clock subdial. The Earthphase complication rotates in the opposite direction to the moon phase display, reflecting the reverse relationship between the two bodies accurately and precisely. The lower half of the Earthphase subdial is cast in shadow, creating the impression of viewing Earth from low lunar orbit — a rounded, three-dimensional depiction that brings the perspective of the Apollo astronauts directly to the wrist. Under UV light, the oceans on the Earthphase indicator glow a vivid, luminous blue — the most beautiful and atmospheric hidden detail in the entire Moonswatch lineup, transforming the subdial into a glowing representation of our planet that is genuinely breathtaking in darkness.
The moon phase complication at 2 o'clock completes the dual celestial display — two oversized luminescent moons with Super-LumiNova in white emission rotating through the full 29.5-day lunar cycle on the disc, glowing softly in the dark and providing the classic moon phase function that connects this model directly to the Mission to the Moonphase Snoopy edition that preceded it. Together, the two complications create the most functionally rich and astronomically complete dial in the Moonswatch collection — the only watch anywhere that shows you both the Moon's phase and the Earth's phase simultaneously, placing you conceptually on the lunar surface and giving you a view of the cosmos that only twenty-four human beings have ever experienced in person.
The light grey Bioceramic case references the colour of the lunar surface itself — that same chalky, ancient grey that fills the Apollo photographs and defines the human imagination of the Moon's appearance. The grey is warm and organic rather than cold and industrial, with a matte finish that catches light with a subtlety and depth that rewards close attention. The dial carries a grainy, textured surface that evokes the lunar regolith — the fine, powder-like soil of the Moon's surface — giving this watch a tactile and visual connection to its subject matter that no flat, smooth dial could achieve. A newly created light grey tachymeter scale on the black bezel completes the palette with restraint and precision.
The black VELCRO strap with contrasting light grey topstitching grounds the all-grey palette with purpose and depth — the darker strap creating just enough contrast to anchor the case without competing with the extraordinary dial complications above. The caseback carries an engraving of the Moon complete with Neil Armstrong's footprint — the most poignant and historically resonant caseback detail in the entire Moonswatch collection, connecting the watch directly to the moment in 1969 when the Speedmaster itself first touched the lunar surface alongside its wearer.
The asymmetrical case profile is lifted directly from the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch — sharp, clean and entirely faithful — with the iconic tachymetric scaled bezel carrying the revered "dot over 90" detail. The box-shaped biosourced glass, the fine circular pattern on the dial's outer ring, recessed subdials and sharp smooth lugs echo the Speedmaster's architectural DNA throughout. The dual OMEGA x Swatch and Moonswatch logos sit alongside the iconic Speedmaster name on the textured grey dial. Grade A Super-LumiNova on all hour markers, hands and the tip of the chronograph seconds hand provides a clean green glow in the dark — complementing the white-glowing moon phase moons and the blue-glowing UV oceans in a multi-layered luminous experience that is the most atmospherically complex of any Moonswatch at any price.
The only watch in the world with both a moon phase and an earth phase. Released on 2 November 2024. The most functionally complete and conceptually profound Moonswatch ever made.
